This instruction was given by Buddha while he was in Jetavana with reference to Elder Udayi. When the Great Elders left the Hall of Truth, Udayi used to go in and sit in the Seat of Law. One day, some visiting monks saw him sitting there and thought that Udayi was a Great Elder. So, the visiting monks asked him some questions about the Aggregates of Being and other matters. After learning that Udayi didn't know the answers to any of these questions, they looked down on him. So, they reported this matter to Tathagata.
