V. 13. The Sledge-Hammer Ghost
Saṭṭhikūṭapetavatthu
Kaitlyn's summary:
This story is under the same circumstances as the story preceding. Elder Lakkhana smiled again while descending from Vulture Peak and didn't tell Moggallana until they were in the presence of the Buddha. When they were in the presence of the Buddha, Moggallana explain that he saw a ghost three-quartes of a league in height. There were 60 thousand sledge-hammers falling and rising uninterruptedly on top of his head. The sledge-hammers kept breaking his skull and his skull would spring up again. The Buddha, listening to the Elder's story, said that he also saw this create as he sat on the Throne of Enlightenment. The Buddha then started telling the story about the stone-thrower and his pupil.
