Within a Monastery resided two monks and both had 500 disciples. These two monks had gotten into a quarrel and accused each other of committing sin, this caused the disciples to turn into two separate sides. However, when the Buddha interfered he told the monks “The birth story of the quail” (it does not state the actual story), and described how many quails had lost their lives over a quarrel. However, even after this the monks did not reunite, the buddha then told a story of the past and stated a stanza, after that the assembled monks were established into the fruit of conversion.

Aung Maung's summary:
In Kosambi, many monks were quarreling. The argument was so big that it grew and involved more monks, nuns, deities, brahmas, and people. The Buddha hearing this tried to reunite the monks several times but failed. Because of this, the Buddha went away and resided in the Eastern Bamboo Deer Park where there was no quarreling. Animals took care of the Buddha and the monks finally realized that they were wrong and asked for pardon.

Florence's summary:
There was a monk of law and another of discipline. The law monk committed a sin but didn't know it was a sin, and a huge quarrel began and even deities from above started to take sides. When the Teacher heard of this, he tried to resolve the situation three times to no avail, so the Teacher gave up and left to reside in a forest. The people refused to give food to the monks after hearing about the quarrel, so the monks were famished from the lack of food. This helped them realize their mistake and asked for forgiveness.

Leng Hom's summary:
There was two monks, where one of them was a student of the Discipline and the other student of the Law. Both had their own group of many monks, one time both of them resolved a sin, where they agreed that the sin was not intentional because the preacher of the Law did not know. It became a problem because the preacher of the Discipline hanged on what happened earlier, and it escalated to which both of them didn’t want to reunite, even after the Teacher told them a story where two people still came together after a problem. The monks didn’t get along well after the Teacher left to stay in a forest, to where they were famished from getting so little food. That brung them to being in a better state of mind, asking each other to be pardoned from their sins. They were gonna ask to be pardoned from the Teacher but the rainy season had started so they all spent the season uncomfortably while the Teacher spent the time peacefully, being attended by an elephant that went there for the same purpose the Teacher came.
