276 Kurudhamma Jātaka (JTA 102) The Kuru Virtue Ashin Sarana:
Yamona’s drawing The brahmins from the country that suffer from drought and poverty asked the Kuru Virtue from the King Bodhisattva in order to safe their country . The king was not satisfied with his Kuru virtue and told them to request it from the queen mother . The brahmins told the king that “We will ask your queen mother but please give us your own Kuru Virtue”. The queen mother wasn’t happy with her Kuru Virtue and said just as the king did. Next, the brahmins went to the queen who said the same thing as the king said and told them to get it from crown prince . The prince couldn’t give them the Kuru virtue and asked them to get it from the advisor . They went to advisor , the surveyor , the charioteer , the treasurer ,the royal granaries the gate keeper, the courtesan and asked for the Kuru Virtue . All these royal people told them that the broke the Kuru Virtue in someway without intension however they brahmins still got the Kuru Virtue from them all. The King of the Kalinga finally was able to practice the Kuru Virtue on his own . The made the rain fall and the whole country escape from the starvation , disease and poverty. After the Buddha concluded the story and taught the Dhamma, many bhikkhus became enlighened.Zwezarni Htun’s drawing The Brahmins searched for the Kuru Virtue, asking several people, but couldn’t find it. Eventually, they found it in a courtesan, shared their discovery with the king, and he began practicing the Kuru Virtue like others in Kuru.Yamona’s drawing There was two bhikkhus who were friends. They went to a river together and one of them killed a goose. He was taken to The Buddha who told the story of the past. Long ago in Kuru kingdom the bodhisatta became the king . He practiced the five precepts which is also called the Kuru Virtue at that time . He was also generous and did donation to the national regularly . In the neighboring kingdom there was a drought. With the advice from his advisors , the king of that country sent his Brahmins to asked the for the great elephant from the generous king because they believed the elephant will help bring the rain . That didn’t work . They went back to return the elephant and asked for the Kuru Virtue to be written on the golden plate because they believed if they practiced the Kuru Virtue they would escape from the drought. The king Bodhisatta said his Virtue may not be pure because his arrow accidentally fell into the water and may have killed living creatures in the water . However those Brahmins insisted to give them his own Kuru Virtue.Kids’ drawing
