Upatissa saw an Elder and decided to follow him until it was the right time to ask him questions. The Elder thought to himself that the wandering ascetics are hostile to the religion he professes, so he will show the monk the profundity of our religion. Florence's summary:
Upatissa attained the Fruit of Conversion and informed the elder that he was leaving to tell his friend of his accomplishment after asking there the Teacher resided. On his way, the wandering ascetic Kolita saw him approaching and noticed the change in Upatissa's expression and found out Upatissa had attained the Deathless, and then both of them attained the Deathless and decided to inform another Teacher, the wandering ascetic Sanjaya. However that Teacher refused to go along with them. Another Teacher welcomed them to lead the holy life. Soon, all of the Teacher's disciples attained Arahatship except Upatissa and Kolita. When the Teacher assigned the roles of Chief Disciples to both of them, the other monks were offended and claimed the Teacher showed favoritism. Upon hearing that, the Teacher denied and told the story of two brothers, Maha Kala and Culla Kalla. From the rice-field they grew, Culla Kala desired to gift the Congregation of Monks with unripe rice, and convinced his brother to allow him to do so. They divided the field and after presenting the rice at the meal, the Teacher granted his wish to be the first to attain Arahatship. Now the spotlight shifts to Yaza. He had also wished for Arahatship. One day while in the process of burning the corpse of a pregnant woman he criticizes the impurity of the body, and then informed their close ones of it too. Because they spread the consciousness of the impurity of the body, they developed Specific Attainment, and obtained what they wished for. The 30 noble youths used to be 30 evildoers but they kept the Five Precepts for 60 thousand years. The three brothers- Uruvela Kassapa, Nadi Kassapa and gaya Kassapa also performed work of merit to obtain their Earnest Wish.
