412 Kotisimbali Jātaka (JTA 157) The Banyan Seed Ashin Sarana:
May’s drawing One day a big garula king flew over the sea and caught a naga king. The garula king flew over the tops of some trees and the naga king saw a way to escape. so he wrapped his body around the trunk of a tree but the garula king just pulled the tree and the naga king. When the garula king got to the silk-cotton tree, he threw the tree into the ocean and laid the naga on a branch and silt his belly open. On the tree that got thrown into the sea there was a bird. The deva was scared and the garula asked the deva why he was looking at the tiny bird that weighs nothing. The deva said that the garula eats flesh but the small bird eats fruit and he will drop seeds of the Bayan fruit on his branches and when the seeds sprout, the roots will engulf his home. The garula said he will protect the deva by driving him away.Thinzar M’s drawing Once some monks decided to become lay people because of some unwholesome thoughts. The Buddha told them that they should not grow there thoughts and told a story of the past. Once there was a nāga and a garuda and the garuda caught the nāga, the nāga wraped around a banyan tree but the tree up rooted and the nāga was taken to a tree with a tree deva. The garuda then ate the fat from the naga and threw its carcass into the ocean with the banyan tree still attached. A little bird that was eating the fruits of the banyan tree and went to the devas tree, the deva started to shake the whole tree and the garuda asked why and the deva told him because the seeds from the fruit that the bird ate will go on the tree and ruin his home so the garuda drived the bird away. The Buddha then concluded the story and said that it is right to mistrust where mistrust is warrented.Kids’ drawing
