IV. 6. Pāṭhika the Naked Ascetic
Pāṭhikājīvakavatthu Sandi M's summary:
The wife of a certain householder, took care of the needs of a Naked Ascetic named Pāṭhika as if he were her son. Her neighbors who went to hear the Teacher preach the Law praised the virtues of the Buddha and in turn, the wife desired to hear it too. However, Pathika refused to allow her to go and when she tried to invite the Teacher he prevented it too. Despite his efforts, the Teacher showed up at the house anyway and the wife praised the Law as she heard it. The Ascetic was upset and disowned the wife as his disciple, insulting them both as he left.
