Every day, 2000 monks have their meal in the house of Anāthapiṇḍika at Sāvatthi. Anyone who desires to give alms at Sāvatthi needs to seek the 2 lay disciples. Both of the disciples deeply understand the tastes of the Congregation of Monks & know what to do. That is why whoever desires to give alms take the disciples with them. This is why they are unable to minister to the monks in person in their own houses.
