I. 12. Devadatta’s Career
Devadattassavatthu
Sandi's summary:
There were six Sakyan princes who were assumed to not be kinsmen of the Buddha for they had not retired from the world to become monks. And when Anuruddha—someone raised within such luxury he didn’t recognize the word “isn’t”—is asked to become a monk. He only does so as he does not wish to be a farmer. So the six princes go to the teacher, and attain Arahatship and Devadatta attains the lower grade of Magic Power.

Devadattassavatthu
Yarzar's summary:
One day, Devadatta thought to himself how nobody had donated alms specifically to him, despite him becoming a monk the same time as the other chief disciples, and at some point he decided to kill the buddha and take over the Sangha. While he failed in killing the Buddha he took 500 monks with him and separated from the Buddha and his disciples. After a long time Devadatta regretted his decisions and attempted to return to the Buddha. However, due to his past actions he was unable to reach the Buddha and he was swallowed by the earth in the middle of the trip and sent into Avici Hell where he will suffer for a hundred thousand cycles of time.
