340 Visayha Jātaka (JTA 134) Alms Without Limit Ashin Sarana:
Zwe Zarni Htun’s drawing Long ago, the bodhisatta was a merchant named Visayha, who kept the five precepts. Every day he gave out food to thousands of people, but one day when Sakka realized that someone was trying to dethrone him, he went to Visayha and made all his riches and food dissapear. Visayha still worked very hard to give out alms with nothing. He and his wife had fasted for a week until Visayha tried to work, but fainted due to the heat. Visayha saw Sakka mid-air and complained to Sakka why he made all his alms dissapear. But then Sakka asked why he was giving out alms so steadfastly. Visayha said that he didn’t want rebirth in his heaven nor the Brahma heavens. He seemed out omniscience. After that Sakka then gave all of Visayha’s riches back and told him to “give alms without limit”.Kids’ drawing
