450 Bilārikosiya Jātaka (JTA 175) A Mess of Cow’s Fodder Ashin Sarana:
Andre Thu’s drawing Once there was a bikkhu who was very generous, but the buddha told that it was not always like this and had taught this once stingy and greedy man to be generous, as once in the past the buddha was a merchant and maid an alms -hall and encouraged his son to continue this generosity. This trend passed down from generation to generation until the sixth person to have descended was not generous but instead was extremely stingy. His five ancestors including the merchant who started this decided to teach him a lesson. They all disguised as brahmins and the merchant aged if there was any food, but the greedy man told that there was nothing, but the merchant gave him some insight and he decided to let him in. This was the case for all five generations, but even then, the food was poorly prepared so they all pretended to die and choke on the food. The greedy man realized this and did not want anyone to think it was his fault so only then was there properly prepared rice and meat and he told everyone in the town that the brahmins had choked and died because they ate too much too quickly. At that moment, the merchant and the other generations revealed what was truly happening and the greedy man promised to be generous from now on.Kids’ drawing
