Yamona Aung’s drawing In the Buddha time, there was a group of traders that went to the Buddha and said that if they survived the trip they would come back. They went on their journey and found a banyan tree to rest at and one of them said this tree looks moist so they cut a branch from the tree. Water came down and then they cut off another branch and down came food. They cut a branch and out came beautiful women. Finally, they cut a branch and out came gems to fill their wagons with. When they went to the Buddha he told the story of the past. Another group of traders came to the same tree and instead they were going to cut it down even though the leader said no due to their greed. So the deva in the tree killed all of them except the leader. The Buddha was the leader.Zwezarni Htun’s drawing While at Jetavana, the Buddha shared a tale of traders who, before embarking on a journey, visited him, expressing gratitude and promising reverence upon their return. Lost in the forest without provisions, they miraculously found a tree providing sustenance, water, stones, and companionship. Upon their safe return, the Buddha attributed their success to moderation. He recounted a similar incident from the past when traders, failing to heed advice, faced peril in the same forest. The leader’s wisdom saved him from the wrath of the naga king, who spared only the leader and his return home.Kids’ drawing
