050 Dummedha Jātaka (JTA 1.27) The Sacrifice to End All Sacrifices Ashin Sarana:
Yamona Aung’s drawing Long ago the Bodhisatta was born to a queen . At the time there were many festivals where people sacrificed animals in the city . The prince did not approve of these bloody ceremonies. He vowed that when he became king he would stop all these ceremonies. When he became king , he told his advisers to tell the people throughout the capital that whoever was caught breaking the five precepts will be sacrificed. From that day onwards, on one in the entire region of the king ever convicted any of the five precepts and all lived together in peace .Thinzar M’s drawing Once the Buddha heard the monks talking about how much he had done to benefit the world so he told them that it was not the first time he had done this and told a story of the past. The Buddha to be was born in a royal family he was well educated and became crown prince. People believed in sacrificing animals for good fortune in those days. But the Buddha-to-be wanted to stop all the sacrifices so he vowed to sacrifice one thousand people who break the five precepts so they spread the message through out the capital. Because of this people immediately stoped making sacrifices so the king didn’t have any one to sacrifice.Kids’ drawing
